As he follows a trail of cryptic messages scattered across the city, conflicting forces claim to know who he is. Japanese intelligence insists he is a valuable collaborator. Officials within the puppet regime identify him as a high-ranking security officer who disappeared months earlier. Meanwhile, a shadowy resistance network believes he may hold the key to exposing a devastating military operation.

Caught between rival factions, Shen Yu struggles to determine whether he was once a patriot, a traitor, or something in between. His search for the truth takes on greater urgency when he uncovers plans surrounding an upcoming political summit designed to showcase stability under occupation. Hidden behind the ceremony is a secret agreement to transfer thousands of detained laborers to the front lines as expendable wartime resources.
