During the late Qing dynasty, skilled physician To Chung is appointed Imperial Palace Physician after curing Empress Dowager Chee Hei. He grows close to the powerless Gwong-seoi Emperor, placed under house arrest after defying the Dowager and losing the First Sino-Japanese War, and helps heal both his illness and his relationship with Consort Tsan. Despite his success, To Chung cannot cure his crippled wife, Hung Bak-hap, and turns to bone-setter Fuk Ling, whose treatments ease her pain. Impressed, To Chung introduces Fuk Ling to the palace, where she becomes the Dowager’s personal bone-setter. As To Chung and Fuk Ling fall in love, his loyalty to his wife holds him back—unaware that Fuk Ling harbors a deadly mission to assassinate the Gwong-seoi Emperor.
